Sponsorship Opportunities

From Margins to Mainstream:

5th World Conference on the Promotion of Mental Health and the Prevention of Mental and Behavioral Disorders will be held at the Melbourne Convention Centre from 10 to 12 September 2008. The conference has received formal endorsement from the World Health Organization.

Due to the Victorian Health Promotion Foundation’s (VicHealth’s) research, policy, practice and training in mental health promotion, Australia is regarded as a world leader in this field.

Consequently VicHealth has been nominated to host the 5th World Conference in association with three international partners: the World Federation of Mental Health (USA), the Mental Health Program of the Carter Center (USA), and the Clifford Beers Foundation (UK). It is anticipated that up to 600 delegates from across the globe will attend the conference.

Background

This biennial conference is part of a series which forms the major activity of the Global Consortium for the Advancement of Promotion and Prevention in Mental Health. The Patron of these conferences is former First Lady of the US, Rosalynn Carter. Other conferences have been held in Atlanta, London, Auckland and Oslo. The consortium has eleven international organisational members deemed as having made considerable contribution to the advancement of global efforts to promote mental health and wellbeing. Our international partners are founding members of this consortium. VicHealth is currently the only Australian organisation of these eleven members.

Marketing and Communications strategy

The marketing plan to be implemented includes aspects of the following:

  • Email communication – that includes frequent email blasts that update on general information, latest news, key dates, program and speaker details, keeping the target market engaged in activity leading up to the conference
  • Printed collateral – printed materials will be used to endorse the email campaign; highlighting key activities such as registration promotions and ‘Call for papers’.
  • Website – used as a pivotal marketing tool, this provides the key source of information about the conference and is constantly updated and refreshed to reflect the latest news.
  • Promotional activities – are planned for related events held leading up to the conference. This provides another access to the target market and the opportunity to keep the conference ‘top of mind’.
  • Advertising and articles – are planned to appear in related journals and publications to promote highlights of the program and key speakers.
  • Media coverage – will be attracted closer to the conference through both specialist and general media channels – profiling key developments in the field.
  • Travel and holiday focus – emphasising the holiday and adventure aspect of Australia will be a key focus of attracting international delegates, teamed with program highlights.
